Mother May I....Visit a Nursery?

Our minds are on mamas these days – and naturally so, with the recent running of the 142nd Kentucky Oaks; foaling season; and, of course, Mother’s Day.

It also isn’t lost on us that according to science (science, people!), the maternal line of a thoroughbred is where to hedge your bets – maybe figuratively and literally. Though we do love our stallions, this fun peek into the influence of a mare’s DNA on her offspring was just too good not to share.

If you’ve got a dominant mare, she can supersede even the moderate stallions. The importance of the mare can never be overstated.

Horse Country proudly opens our gates to several nursery farms, allowing a behind the scenes experience specifically with mares and their foals. This might just be the perfect month to visit a location that offers an intimate look at the females. Book your tour now!
