Every guest wants to have a unique experience but there are a few things that every visitor should see.
It is breeding season here in Horse Country; an exciting time when new foals are making their debut into the world and the farms are busy nurturing these future champions. Foaling season begins in early January and continually picks up pace as we move into spring. By this point, there are plenty of new babies bouncing around the paddocks just under the mares' feet. In 2015, Kentucky welcomed over 8,000 foals so there is always so many to see at our world-renown nurseries. Here is our quick "how to" so you can make the most of your visit.
At Horse Country, we are proud to be a part of helping fans meet their favorite past champions and future contenders. Accessing behind-the-scenes experiences at the iconic studs, nurseries, a feed mill and equine clinics is a bucket list experience for longtime fans and leisure travelers alike. We know that guests love the opportunities they have to visit Horse Country, but how did our organization come to be, and what does the cost of admission go toward? Horse Country is the result of a dedicated group of industry leaders, who came together to “Share the dream inspired by the Thoroughbred.” They believed that by opening their gates in a coordinated, regular way – and investing in providing an excellent experience once guests were on property, they could contribute to the sport’s fan development. What better way to fall in love with racing than to fall in love with the horse?
January 1 ushers in many things- a new year, new foals and a new class of yearlings! All thoroughbreds (in the northern hemisphere) share the same birthday! Can you imagine the celebration?! 2017's class of yearlings are just one year away from the track and they will grow exponentially in the coming months. By age two, a thoroughbred will reach 90% of its full growth, which could mean gaining about 3 pounds a day!
As the Holiday season approaches and 2016 comes to an end, we take a moment to reflect on the amazing year we have had in Horse Country. With a full year under our belt, we have learned a great deal from our amazing visitors. In case you were wondering, more than 20,000 people come through our gates in 2016! That is more than 20,000 reasons for us to be thankful this Holiday season! Words cannot express how grateful we are to the visitors that made our first year a resounding success.
